Dear Friends and Colleagues We had been so looking forward to welcoming UKCS to Glasgow. Over the past few months we have repeatedly assessed the situation as regards mass gatherings in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we are very saddened that we will not welcome delegates physically to Glasgow, it is clear that the safest and most certain way to be sure that we can stage a UKCS Conference in 2021 is to hold it online. Hence now we are adjusting our programme to work effectively in an online format. The beauty of course is that all colleagues anywhere can join us and although it is not possible for us to meet in-person, our aim is that the online event will replicate (as far as possible) the professionalism, relevance and quality of the usual UKCS Conference. We are opening up a new Call for Abstracts and have allowed space within our programme for oral and oral poster presentations, as well as a poster exhibition of pdf posters. We will also have workshop sessions in evenings before our main event. Networking is always quoted as being a very important reason for attending the UKCS Conference. We plan to make the programme interactive by including plenty of opportunities for questions to speakers and we are also aiming to design a fun event – with Glaswegian flavour if we can – so that our community connects through enjoyment, albeit not face to face. Our online conference will include an online exhibition and interested companies should contact the Conference Secretariat. So colleagues, please note the 2021 dates in your diary and look out for updates. We will miss you in Glasgow but very much hope that you will support the first UKCS Online Conference.
